Practice Management Essentials: A Student Model for Developing Audiology Practice
Saturday, April 22, 8:30-10:30 am

A challenge in the transition from an audiology student to a clinician is how to adapt theoretical information to the realities of audiology practice. A student needs practical training to develop not only technical skills, but also the requisite knowledge for successful practice management. Faculty and preceptors can play significant roles in assisting the student in preparing for this transition. How? By educating students on the business aspects of clinical practice.

The 7th Annual Clinical Education Forum will highlight important practice management topics and strategies for how to introduce them in student clinical experiences. Topics will include the following: providing the fundamentals for a successful business practice, managing the purchasing process, the value of itemization, navigating billing codes, and understanding third-party administrators.

The Academy’s Academic and Clinical Education Resources Committee, and invited guests, will provide tools and tips for teaching these elements of private practice, as well as facilitate interactive examination of case scenarios to utilize in clinical education.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to

  1. Define key business aspects of clinical practice.
  2. Describe practice management content that faculty and preceptors should infuse in clinical education experiences.
  3. Implement case scenarios to represent practice management content.
