Best Practices Pavilion: Verification and Aided Speech Recognition
Equipment provided by Grason-Stadler.
Outstanding audiological care includes ensuring not only that a hearing aid is functioning and is programmed appropriately, but also that the hearing aid user can hear and understand sufficiently in quiet and in noise. Best practice for hearing aid fitting includes hearing aid verification, which confirms that the output of the device is sufficient to improve audibility, AND aided speech recognition testing, which confirms that improved audibility results in better speech understanding.
From a patient perspective, aided speech recognition testing can demonstrate the benefits of hearing aids…or the limitations that would suggest cochlear implants may be a better option. Every audiologist has the opportunity to elevate their practice by incorporating regular aided testing with hearing aid patients.
This pavilion and associated mini-modules will include presentation of effective aided testing protocols, review of the evidence base, and the opportunity for hands-on practice. Attendees will leave ready to incorporate effective aided speech recognition testing into their practices Monday morning—and set themselves apart from the competition!
