This report summarizes the work of the task force on central presbycusis and presents its findings. The task force’s charge was to review the body of evidence surrounding the existence of age-related declines in central-auditory processes and the consequences of any such declines for everyday communication and function.

The study was conducted by the Seniors Research Group, an alliance between the National Council on Aging (NCOA) and Market Strategies, Inc. According to the study, untreated hearing loss has serious emotional and social consequences for older persons.

Continuing Education Needs Survey Summary
This document has been retired. The American Academy of Audiology Board of Directors organized a continuing education needs assessment project during the spring of 1996. Surveys were sent to 1539 members selected at random, with a total of 813 membership surveys returned.
