Dr. Heidi Slager received her doctorate of audiology from The University of Memphis in 2010. She recently transitioned to a new role as a business development representative with Cochlear Americas.

Dr. Slager previously worked for 14 years as a clinical and research audiologist on the University of Michigan Cochlear Implant Team, where she gained specialized experience in care provision for cochlear implant and osseointegrated hearing implant recipients across the lifespan.

From 2021-2024, she served as the assistant director of the Cochlear Implant Program and clinical and administrative manager of the Hearing Rehabilitation Center Ambulatory Care Unit at Michigan Medicine, providing clinical and administrative supervision and collaborating across audiology, speech-language pathology, surgical, research, technical, billing, procurement, patient experience, facility, and vendor teams to ensure high quality patient care, education, and research.

In addition to her clinical and administrative roles, Dr. Slager served as the principal investigator, co-investigator, IRB preparation consultant, site study manager, or multi-site study manager for 16 clinical trials including industry-sponsored, investigator-initiated, and national multi-site phase III-IV medical device studies.

She has previously volunteered with the Academy as a member of the Membership, Political Action, Member Assistance, and Research Initiatives Committees and as chair of the Resume Review Subcommittee. She also has enjoyed volunteering for several of the Academy’s annual conferences, as well as the ASHA Convention, and American Cochlear Implant Alliance conference planning committees. Dr. Slager currently serves on the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s Council on Academic Accreditation and is a past member of the Michigan Audiology Coalition Executive Board.

She enjoys speaking to local and national audiences regarding topics related to hearing loss, cochlear implants, and auditory rehabilitation. She believes in fostering a culture of excellence, respect, accountability, and kindness in her personal and professional endeavors.
