The American Academy of Audiology, upon detailed appraisal of the recommendations and supporting evidence, has endorsed the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Clinical Practice Guideline on Aural Rehabilitation for Adults with Hearing Loss (published in the March 2023 issue of the American Journal of Audiology).
The Academy’s endorsement entails a formal review by the Guidelines and Strategic Documents Committee to determine the appropriateness for Academy’s endorsement, review by the expert panel for methodological quality and rigor, and an approval by the Academy Board of Directors. The endorsement process, including information on the procedures related to review for endorsement, types of endorsement, and dissemination, is detailed in the American Academy of Audiology Endorsement of Clinical Practice Documents Developed by External Organizations policy document.
This guideline provides recommendations, accompanied by a series of key practice points to support implementation within a person-centered framework, for the provision of aural rehabilitation services to adults with hearing loss across all health-care settings. The guideline also provides payers and policymakers with information detailing a comprehensive approach to aural rehabilitation in terms of effectiveness, content, and service delivery and identifies future research needs.
