Dr. Maria Pomponio is an audiologist at Stony Brook Medicine in East Setauket, New York and currently enjoys a varied clinical workload, completing pediatric and adult diagnostic evaluations, vestibular evaluations, electrophysiology, and pediatric auditory processing evaluations. She also provides care for patients using implantable devices, from the initial evaluation to follow-up care post-activation.

Dr. Pomponio received her bachelor of arts (BA) degree from Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland, and her doctor of audiology (AuD) degree from Towson University in Towson, Maryland. She completed her final-year audiology externship at Stony Brook Medicine. Prior to returning “home” to Stony Brook’s Speech and Hearing Department as an audiologist, Dr. Pomponio worked clinically with patients of all ages and across a variety of specialty areas at hospital organizations in both Philadelphia and New York City. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Pomponio works with students in the CUNY AuD Program in her role as adjunct assistant professor.

Dr. Pomponio has published and presented at state and national conferences on topics including auditory processing disorder and graduate student supervision. She is a member of the American Academy of Audiology Jerger Future Leaders of Audiology class of 2022. She serves on the Academy’s Ethical Practices Committee and the Student Academy of Audiology Advisory Committee. She also holds the position of director of audiology on the Board of the New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NYSSLHA). She hopes to continue to work with changemakers in the field and provide any support possible to ensure the future of audiology remains bright for practitioners, patients, and students alike.
