The audiology externship is the much-anticipated final year of audiology doctoral education. Required prior to graduation, this supervised clinical experience marks the “student’s transition from a novice clinician to an independent, self-evaluating practitioner” (American Academy of Audiology, 2006; Student Academy of Audiology [SAA], n.d.). There are many shareholders in the audiology externship experience, including the student clinician, graduate program, and clinical placement site. Each has their unique set of roles and responsibilities, and all must equally buy-in to the process for it to be a success.
